Weeds don’t just grow in your lawn. Landscape beds, mulch, gravel, decorative rock, sidewalks, driveways, and other open areas can quickly become overrun with unwanted weeds—especially during the long Central Texas growing season.
At Century Outdoor Services, our Landscape Weed Prevention Program is a proactive, year-round service designed specifically for these non-turf areas. Instead of waiting until weeds become a major problem, we combine preventative pre-emergent applications with targeted weed control and manual removal when appropriate.
Our goal is simple: reduce weed pressure and keep your landscaped areas cleaner and easier to maintain throughout the year.

Our Landscape Weed Prevention Program is a 6-round recurring service with treatments scheduled approximately every two months throughout the year.
The program combines several methods of weed management rather than relying on a single treatment. We use pre-emergent weed prevention to help stop new weeds from germinating, post-emergent treatments to control weeds that are already growing, and manual weed removal in areas where spraying may not be appropriate.
Because weeds can germinate during different seasons in Central Texas, ongoing prevention and control are important. One application cannot provide year-round results.
The Landscape Weed Prevention Program is designed for non-turf areas around your property, including:
We offer options for treating the front yard landscape areas or the full property, depending on your needs.
One of the biggest differences between this program and simply spraying visible weeds is our focus on preventing weeds before they emerge.
Pre-emergent products create a protective barrier in the soil that helps prevent weed seeds from successfully germinating. These treatments do not kill weeds that are already growing, which is why we combine them with post-emergent weed control throughout the year.
Landscape beds can be particularly challenging because they often contain exposed soil, mulch, gravel, or rock with open spaces where weed seeds can germinate. Unlike a healthy, dense lawn that can naturally help crowd out weeds, landscape beds frequently provide weeds with plenty of room to establish.
By maintaining preventative protection and treating weeds that break through, we can significantly reduce weed pressure over time.
We begin the year with preventative weed control designed to establish an early-season barrier and reduce weed germination.
As temperatures begin to rise, we target existing weeds and monitor landscape areas for new weed activity.
We continue weed prevention and control as Central Texas enters peak growing conditions.
We target existing weeds and reinforce preventative protection to help reduce weed pressure moving into fall and winter.
Our focus shifts toward controlling existing weed growth and maintaining clean landscape beds, gravel, decorative stone, and hardscape areas.
The final scheduled treatment of the year focuses on winter weed management and maintaining cleaner landscape and hardscape areas.
Not every weed should be sprayed.
As part of the program, weeds exceeding approximately 8 inches in height within designated treatment areas may be manually removed as needed.
We may also manually remove weeds growing within or immediately around shrubs, ornamental plants, groundcovers, and tree rings when applying an herbicide could potentially damage desirable plants.
Smaller weeds in appropriate treatment areas are generally controlled using targeted herbicide applications.
Every new Landscape Weed Prevention client begins with a required Program Launch Visit.
Properties can start the program with very different levels of existing weed pressure. Some may already be relatively clean, while others may have significant weed growth that needs to be addressed before routine maintenance can be effective.
The Launch Visit gives our team additional time to inspect the property, establish the treatment areas, begin preventative weed control, target existing weeds, and prepare the property for the ongoing program.
The Program Launch Visit includes:
The Program Launch Visit is a separate one-time charge and is performed with your first scheduled treatment.
Yes.
You do not have to wait until January to enroll. New clients can begin the Landscape Weed Prevention Program at any point during the year.
Your Program Launch Visit will take place with the next appropriate scheduled service round, and your property will then continue through the remaining rounds of the recurring program.
No professional weed control program can guarantee that a property will remain completely weed-free.
Weed seeds are continually introduced into landscapes by wind, birds, animals, irrigation, weather, construction activity, and other environmental factors. Some weed breakthrough should be expected, particularly when a property first begins the program.
Our goal is to dramatically reduce weed pressure and maintain a consistently cleaner, better-maintained appearance throughout the year.
Much like our lawn Fertilization & Weed Control Program, results generally improve over time as preventative treatments are established and existing weed pressure is brought under control.
Bermuda grass can be particularly aggressive when it spreads from the lawn into landscape beds.
When Bermuda grass is growing into an open landscape bed, we can spot-treat the affected areas with a targeted herbicide application. The treated Bermuda will gradually decline over the following weeks.
Removal of the dead Bermuda runners is not included in the Landscape Weed Prevention Program.
Bermuda growing directly through established groundcover or ornamental plants is more complicated because treating the Bermuda without damaging desirable plants may not be possible. If we encounter this situation, our team can discuss the available options with you.
Some of the preventative products used in the program need to be watered into the surface to activate properly.
If the landscape area receives traditional spray irrigation, the product can generally be activated through the next scheduled irrigation cycle or rainfall event.
If your planting beds only use drip irrigation, we may recommend hand watering the treated surface after the application because drip irrigation may not provide enough surface coverage to properly activate the treatment.
Existing weeds treated with post-emergent weed control may begin showing signs of decline within several days to a few weeks. The exact timing depends on the weed species, weather, temperature, and stage of growth.
Pre-emergent treatments work differently. Because they are designed to prevent future weeds from germinating, you should not expect an immediate visible change after a preventative application.
The real benefit of the program comes from consistent prevention and control over time.
Every landscape is different, so this service requires an on-site property walk-through before we provide your estimate.
Our team evaluates the size of your landscape beds, gravel and decorative stone areas, hardscape treatment areas, existing weed pressure, accessibility, and overall scope of work.
Pricing starts at $62 per round plus tax, with the final price based on the property and treatment areas. A separate one-time Program Launch Visit is also required when enrolling in the program.
